Man involved in 2012 hazing event gets a year in prison
YOUNGSTOWN — One of nine men who were charged with beating two pledges to a Youngstown State University fraternity in early 2012 was sentenced today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Raheem Satterthwaite, 25, of Illinois Avenue, received a sentence of one year from Judge Shirley J. Christian on a charge of inciting violence, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor assault.
The two pledges to the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity told police they were beaten consistently with paddles, fists and clothes hangers. One of the men sought hospital treatment twice for his injuries. Satterthwaite was given credit for 219 days served in jail.
