Kasich assisting Trumbull County with heroin OD treatment

WARREN — The Trumbull County Sheriff's Office and State Rep. Sean O'Brien of Bazetta, D-63rd, will have a press conference at 3 p.m. today at the sheriff's office to announce that Gov. John Kasich's administration will be assisting Trumbull County by providing Naloxone to various agencies to combat the heroin-overdose-death crisis in the county.

Naloxone reverses the effects of an overdose of opiates such as heroin or Oxycontin.

Six people died during 19 confirmed drug overdoses in six days last week, possibly because of heroin laced with the extremely potent pain killer fentanyl, said Capt. Jeff Orr, commander of the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force. The county had 54 overdose deaths in 2014.
