Indians lose no-hitter, but beat Astros
HOUSTON The Cleveland Indians took a no-hitter into the ninth inning and eventually settled for a 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros in the finale of a three-game series Thursday at Minute Maid Park.
Houston's Jed Lowrie broke up the no-hitter and ruined the shutout bid with a one-out, solo home run off Cleveland reliever Nick Hagadone.
Indians starter Trevor Bauer (1-0) worked six hitless innings and struck out 11. Bauer walked five.
Kyle Crockett pitched the seventh and struck out two. Scott Atchison pitched a hitless eighth and struck out one.
Hagadone struck out Chris Carter to open the ninth, but Lowrie followed with a home run to left-center. Hagadone retired the next two batters.
Cleveland pitchers struck out 16 and walked seven in the game.
