Valley golfing legend John Hamarik dies at 56

Some consider John Hamarik the best golfer to come out of the Mahoning Valley.

He played in 25 professional golf tournaments with a career earnings of more than $6,000 before his professional career was cut short by arthritis in his hands.

Hamarik, a 1977 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, died last Friday. He was 56.

Following his professional career, Hamarik focused more on teaching others the game. He was active in the community and had a major impact on golf in the Valley.
