Testimony underway in 5-year-old rape trial

YOUNGSTOWN — Testimony in a rape case over five years old is getting underway this morning in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Maureen Sweeney is hearing the case against Maurice Clark, who was indicted in April of 2010 for the September, 2009, rape and kidnapping of a woman in Youngstown.

In February, an advocacy group filed a mandamus with the 7th District Court of Appeals on behalf of the victim to force Judge Sweeney to try the case, saying the victim was being denied justice because of the delay in bringing the case to trial.
