Firefighters kept busy battling two East Side blazes Tuesday

YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters battled blazes within minutes of each other early Tuesday morning at two vacant East Side houses.

A 480 N. Garland Ave. home was so involved in flames when crews arrived about 4:30 a.m. that firefighters let it burn down and protected adjacent homes. Damage is listed at $830 in that blaze. The cause is listed as arson.

Crews also responded to an 859 Dean St. home about 5:10 a.m. That home was allowed to burn down because of the amount of fire when firefighters arrived. Damage there is listed at $2,500, and a cause has not been established.
