Hillside accredited

HOWLAND

Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, part of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, has been accredited for three years by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for its inpatient rehabilitation, brain- injury rehabilitation, stroke center and vocational evaluation services programs.

This is the sixth-consecutive three-year accreditation that the international accrediting body, CARF, has awarded to Hillside. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer-review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable and of the highest quality.

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process and continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of the persons served.

Keystone to move

HERMITAGE, PA.

The Keystone Blind Association has purchased the former Bolotin’s Furniture building on East State Street in Hermitage and plans to move in when renovations are complete.

A capital-fund campaign to raise money for renovations and the move into the new facility, headed by former KBA board member Tresa Templeton, began this month.

Keystone operates out of two locations in Sharon: the headquarters on Stambaugh Avenue, and the Key Building on Division Street, which houses KBA vocational services and is a public storefront and manufacturing facility for the Keystone line of industrial digging and striking tools and safety helmets assembled by the Keystone team of blind, visually impaired or otherwise disabled workers.

‘Ohio First Steps’

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Hospital Association and the Ohio Department of Health has launched “Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies,” a breast-feeding program to recognize maternity centers in Ohio that have taken steps to promote and support breast feeding with new moms.

“Reducing infant mortality in Ohio is a focus area for Ohio hospitals, and this program is intended to help improve breast- feeding initiation and duration rates in Ohio to support that goal,” said Mike Abrams, OHA president and chief executive officer.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breast feeding for six months followed by continued breast feeding as complementary foods are introduced.
