Youngstown has reduced the membership rates to use its golf course
YOUNGSTOWN
In an effort to increase the use of its Henry Stambaugh Golf Course, the city has slashed the cost of membership rates, Youngstown’s park and recreation director said.
Only six golfers had memberships last year, director Robert Burke said.
With the reduced rates, the city sold four memberships for unlimited use of the 92-year-old course Monday, the day it opened this year, Burke said.
“We thought that if we drop the rates, we can get more people to golf,” he said.
The new rates at the course at 202 Gypsy Lane on the city’s North Side, are $100 less than last year, Burke said.
The cost is $350 for adult city residents, $375 for adult nonresidents, $300 for city residents at least 60 years old and $325 for noncity residents who are at least 60 years old.
Also new this year are a student rate of $150 and a $175 rate for veterans.
Two of the four memberships sold Monday were to military veterans, Burke said.
The rates don’t include the use of motorized golf carts, which remains $5, he said.
Individual rates remain the same this year. City residents pay $8.50 to play the nine-hole course. Those who don’t live in the city pay $9 a round. Those age 60 or older play for $1 less.
The course usually closes in late November, depending on the weather.
