The Niles School District is accepting open-enrollment applications through June 5 for the 2015-16 school year. Call the administration office at 330-989-5095, ext. 4002, or go to the office at 390 Rhodes Ave. to receive information.
Students from any Ohio school district are eligible. Enrollment is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis according to openings in each grade. Applicants will be notified by mail of their acceptance or denial into the district.
Mohawk schedules transition event
BESSEMER, Pa.
Mohawk Elementary School will have a Little Warriors transition incentive for children age 3 to 5 who live in but aren’t enrolled in the district. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 11 and children, who must be accompanied by an adult, should arrive about 10:30 a.m. to have identification scanned. Children will be able to learn, play and visit with their peers.
St. Christine is taking registration
YOUNGSTOWN
St. Christine School is accepting registration for kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2015-16 school year. A $25 registration fee is required. Call the school office at 330-792-4544 to arrange for a tour and/or to secure registration materials. St. Christine School is an Ohio Education Choice Scholarship participating school. Busing is available for those who qualify from Austintown, Boardman, Canfield and Youngstown.
National Scholastic Art winners chosen

The National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards has announced the 2015 American Visions Medals, Gold Medal and Silver Medal winners. Four works were selected for National Medals: “Picture Day” by Taylor Vence, American Vision Medal, West Branch High School, Steve Mountz, art teacher; “Introspection” by Luke Carabbia, Gold Medal, Boardman High School, Amanda Bero, art teacher; “The Handyman’s Canvas” by Tara Rogers, Gold Medal, Canfield High School, Kathryn Antal, art teacher; and “Runners’ Contemplation” by Brian Patrick, Silver Medal, South Range High School, Rachel Theiss, art teacher.
These works will be part of the approximately 2,000 displayed at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons, The New School for Design and the Pratt Manhattan Gallery, all in New York City, from June 10-12 as part of the National Scholastic Art Awards.
