The public is invited to a free Lunch and Learn event from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 15 at Warren SCOPE, 220 W. Market St.

The discussion topic will be “Write your own obituary.” Participants will choose how to be remembered and help their families with the task of carrying out final wishes.

Real-estate tax collections up

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Lawrence County Treasurer Richard L. Rapone said property tax collections have totaled about $4.5 million as of March 31. Collections are up about $729,000 from the same time last year. Tax outreach collections also are up about $42,000.

The treasurer’s office will be accepting tax payments at the discount amount until May 4, then the face amount will be in effect from May 5 through July 6. Property owners may visit www.co.lawrence.pa.us/property and go to “pay county property taxes online.”

Special meeting

SALEM

Salem school board will have a special meeting at 8 a.m. Friday at the administration building, 1226 E. State St., to discuss: renovations to classrooms and future renovations update; PI budget for the coming year; preparation of the five-year forecast for May; drug-testing policy; communication of committee work; levy-renewal decision; fliers and review of policy for what can be distributed to students and how; bidding policy and the parameters for getting quotes for purchases of different amounts; open enrollment and what is being done to decrease the number of students leaving the district; what is being done or what can be done to develop Salem sports teams; status of board goals and how they will be monitored; and review and discussion of compromise on board of revision items.

Climate change event at Villa Maria

VILLA MARIA, PA.

Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will present “Global Climate Change is Changing Us” April 24 and 25 in the conference center.

Presenters will be Daniel J. Misleh, executive director of the Catholic Climate Covenant, and Sister Barbara O’Donnell, an educator of youths and adults focusing on spirituality and ecological sustainability who is an ambassador with the Catholic Climate Covenant.

Cost is $125, including program, meals and lodging; commuter cost is $100, which includes program with lunch and dinner; and April 25 only for $75, including program with lunch and dinner.
