YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning County Auditor’s Office has begun the state-mandated, once-every-six-years reappraisal of all of the county’s real estate.
Facet Technology Corp. will photograph all homes and buildings for Integrity Appraisal Services, which will conduct the reappraisal.
Property values determined by the reappraisal will be effective for real-estate tax collections in 2018.
The Columbiana County Auditor’s Office also will have appraisers in the field reviewing residential and agricultural properties in Salem and Perry Township during business hours as early as next week as they conduct that county’s revaluation.
Work on Route 62
YOUNGSTOWN
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and ending at 7 a.m. next Saturday, portions of U.S. Route 62 will be closed as part of a state improvement project.
Route 62 will be closed over the Mahoning River, Poland Avenue, Cedar Street and the railroad for a concrete bridge-deck pour. A detour will be posted.
The work is part of a $17 million project to make repairs to Route 62 that started a year ago and is expected to be completed by November 2016.
Currently, the entrance ramp from Himrod Avenue to 62 westbound is closed through July for construction. The detour is Lane Avenue to Rayen Avenue to Albert Street.
Facing theft charge

A Warren woman faces a felony theft charge after police said she attempted to steal more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from Victoria’s Secret, 7401 Market St.
Township police arrested Crissy Wortman, 33, Thursday after they discovered she was trying to steal 47 store items, valued at $1,282. Police said she appeared to be intoxicated.
Assault charges

A Canfield man faces felonious assault, aggravated menacing and aggravated trespass charges after police said he assaulted his 16-year-old girlfriend.
Township police arrested Nicholas Garritano Jr., 19, of Villa Rosa Drive, after he reportedly attacked his girlfriend in Boardman while her parents attempted to stop him. Police said the victim’s arm may have been broken.
Police found Garritano after he fled the scene. He was released on bond pending a court appearance.
Examining remains
WARREN
Trumbull County Coroner Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk and Warren Detective Eric Laprocina of the Warren Police Department were traveling to Maryland today to deliver the remains of a body found March 26 in a building in Warren.
Dr. Germaniuk selected a facility he had experience with from his days as medical examiner in Washington, D.C., to examine the remains to learn more about how the person died.
Workers discovered the bones and a bit of clothing of a person while preparing to remove asbestos from the building at 540 E. Market St.
Foundation donates
YOUNGSTOWN
The Home Savings Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to Meridian Community Care for use at the PANDA Leaders’ Club at Niles middle and high schools. PANDA stands for Prevent and Neutralize Drug Abuse. It is designed to empower students to make informed and responsible decisions concerning drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, violence and self-esteem.
