Superseding indictments issued in Winona Avenue homicide

A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday issued superseding indictments to 10 adults already facing charges for the Aug. 17, 2014, death of Shawn Cortez, 17, on Winona Avenue.
Prosecutors and police said Cortez was killed during a brawl between two groups of families on the streets.
Indicted on charges of aggravated riot, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, aggravated assault and obstructing justice are David J. Belton, 33, East Judson Avenue; Carl L. Fleeton, 42, Norwood Avenue; Dequann Fleeton, 21, Mohawk Avenue; Rontrell White, 26, Victor Avenue; Davar Porter, 20, Hillman Way, Boardman; Rouxje Ezell, 20, Volney Road; Carlisha Hammonds, 19, St. Louis Avenue; and Carla Hammonds, 47, of St. Louis Avenue.
Some of those defendants also face charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Facing charges of aggravated riot, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, aggravated assault and two counts of murder are Dejon Jenkins, 19, and his brother David Jenkins, 18, both of Manchester Avenue.
There are other defendants facing charges in juvenile court as well.
Porter pleaded guilty this week to a charge of aggravated riot.
Assistant Prosecutor Martin Desmond, lead attorney on the case, did not return a message asking what changes were made in the indictments.

Craig Sims, 37, West Marion Avenue, domestic violence.
Eric Cobb, 43, East Ravenwood Avenue, possession of cocaine.
Raymond C. Armstrong, 56, of Toledo, criminal simulation, forgery and possessing criminal tools.
Myron A. Haskins Jr., 26, of Toledo, criminal simulation, forgery and possessing criminal tools.
Lafoe D. White, 23, of Toledo, criminal simulation, forgery and possessing criminal tools.
Mark W. Coler, 40, Loveland Road, identity fraud.
Melvin L. Land, 20, West Boulevard, trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin, two counts of possession of drugs with forfeiture specifications, being a felon in possession of a firearm and tampering with evidence.
Daniel A. Mavroudis, 52, Park Avenue, four counts of breaking and entering.
Samuel A. Richard, 26, Erie Street, receiving stolen property.
Frank Vetrano, 27, Perry Street, Struthers, two counts of burglary.
Marcus Wilkins, 27, Applecrest Drive, Boardman, trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in heroin, illegal manufacture of drugs with forfeiture specifications, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a defaced firearm.
Ashley N. Miller, 27, Samuel Street, deception to obtain dangerous drugs and possession of drugs.
Timothy Yeager, 28, Rockview Avenue, domestic violence.
Izaiah Beacham, 19, Alameda Avenue, possession of heroin with a forfeiture specification.
Patrick Braun, 42, Orange Avenue, felonious assault.
Devante D. Scott, 20, Cranbrook Drive, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and two counts of possession of drugs.
Alexander D. Spencer, 20, Summer Street, carrying concealed weapons and aggravated menacing.
James C. McDonald, 70, Berlin Station Road, Canfield, two counts of attempted abduction and two counts of child enticement.
Joseph W. Novacich, 42, Valerie Drive, two counts of attempted abduction and two counts of child enticement.
Curtis Daye, 22, Cleveland Street, receiving stolen property.
Rafeekah Johnson, 40, Guss Street, two counts of obstructing justice.
Rayshawn Gilmore, 25, Dogwood Avenue, aggravated arson, arson and burglary.
John Reid, 27, East Philadelphia Avenue, illegal conveyance of prohibited items on to the grounds of a detention facility and possession of heroin.
