St. Aloysius School in East Liverpool to close at end of school year
EAST LIVERPOOL — St. Aloysius School, 335 W. Fifth St., will close at the end of the current school year.
Bishop George V. Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown has accepted the recommendation of the Office of Catholic Schools and the Rev. Peter Haladej, pastor of Holy Trinity Church, 235 W. Fifth St., East Liverpool.
Declining enrollment is cited as the primary reason for the closure. Between the 2012-2013 and 2014-2015 school year, the school’s enrollment dropped by nearly 50 percent with an enrollment this year of 49 students.
Families who wish to continue to enroll their children in Catholic school for the next academic year may consider St. Paul School in Salem, diocesan officials said.
