Handel's plays April Fool's joke on customers

CANFIELD — Handel’s customers with an addiction to the beloved chocolate pecan flavor were distraught when they learned the flavor would be discontinued on April 1.

But the ice cream company, based in Canfield, is just having fun with its customers by playing an April Fools’ Day joke.

“We are very embedded into the community, and we feel the customers are like our family,” said Jim Brown, chief operating officer.

Because the customers are like family, the company decided to joke around with its family members. The company posted signs at its locations to warn customers that today is the last day for chocolate pecan.

“People are so worked up over it,” Brown said. “Everyone has been having a good time. Chocolate Pecan is a sacred cow. We have plenty of chocolate pecan it was just our way of taking in the holiday with a little bit of fun.”
