Community Solutions, a program of COMPASS Family & Community Services, and Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic are hosting a regional Mahoning Valley Teen Institute seminar for area high-school students and adult advisers from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center in the Ohio Room.
The Mahoning Valley Teen Institute is a drug-free leadership organization for high-school students from Mahoning and Trumbull counties that helps students develop skills to become positive leaders within their schools and communities.
Charged with rape
WARREN
Michael D. Gray, 66, of Atlantic Street Northeast, is in the Trumbull County Jail without eligibility for bond after his arraignment Tuesday on a rape charge in Warren Municipal Court.
The charges stem from a complaint filed with city police March 20 by a Warren woman alleging Gray raped her 5-year-old daughter early in March.
A warrant through Warren Municipal Court was filed charging Gray with the offense March 25, but Gray was in a Veterans Affairs hospital in Cleveland until Monday, when he was brought to the Trumbull County jail.
A not-guilty plea was entered for him, according to court records.
Public review set
YOUNGSTOWN
Eastgate Regional Council of Governments will have a public review meeting for the draft fiscal years 2016-19 Transportation Improvement Plan for Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The meeting will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate’s office, 100 E. Federal St., Suite 1000.
Copies of the draft plan will be available for review, and Eastgate staff members will be on hand to answer questions. Copies of the plan also are available for public viewing Thursday through April 17 at the Mahoning County Engineer’s office, 940 Bears Den Road; the Trumbull County Engineer’s office, 650 N. River Road NW, Warren; and at Eastgate’s office, as well as at www.eastgatecog.org.

Autism Awareness Day

The Rich Center for Autism is kicking off Autism Awareness Month on Thursday, World Autism Awareness Day, which has the theme of Light It Up Blue, by urging everyone to wear blue to show their support for those affected by autism.
At 2 p.m., students, staff, families and community supporters will gather on the northernmost tennis courts behind Fedor Hall for a blue-balloon release to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day.
Earlier in the day, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Youngstown State University Scholars and Honors will have an Easter egg hunt for The Rich Center students inside the Rich Center in Fedor Hall on the YSU campus.
Stun gun used on man
YOUNGSTOWN
Police used an electronic stun gun on a man with a gun Tuesday on the South Side.
Police were called to Hilton Avenue and Southern Boulevard at about 3:35 p.m. for a report of a man holding a gun. Jaquon Montay Rozier, 19, of East Ravenwood Avenue in Youngstown, was arrested for carrying concealed weapons, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Police arrived to an argument and the man refused to drop the gun. He was hit with darts from an electronic stun gun and taken down to the ground for the arrest, the report said.
Officers did recover a revolver from the man. He was handcuffed and taken to the Mahoning County jail.
Boil advisory lifted
CORTLAND
The boil advisory issued Friday because of a water-tank break on Russell Avenue was lifted Tuesday, city officials said.
City residents had been encouraged to boil their water for two or thee minutes. A 500,000-gallon tank was emptied, and water pressure in the system dropped below 20 pounds per square inch, requiring the advisory, city officials said.
Threats investigated
AUSTINTOWN
Township police are investigating a case of aggravated menacing after a woman reportedly threatened to shoot up a Kirk Road house.
Police came to the house Monday night, where a victim told them a woman repeatedly made the threat after a physical altercation between the victim and suspect over the weekend.
The police reportedly spoke to the suspect when she called someone at the house and made more threats. No arrest was made.
Child-abuse prevention
WARREN
In recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, Trumbull County Children Services, in conjunction with the Akron Children’s Hospital’s Mahoning Valley Child Advocacy Center and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund, is hosting a Pinwheels for Prevention event at 1 p.m. Friday at TCCS, 2282 Reeves Road NE.
The display of 1,485 pinwheels represents the number of child-maltreatment reports received in Trumbull County in 2014; adults who advocate for children; and children who are growing up in safe, loving families.
The event begins a monthlong campaign by Prevent Child Abuse Ohio to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and to encourage support for prevention.
