YSU vets/ROTC alumni reunion is Oct. 10 and 11

The Youngstown State University Veterans and ROTC Alumni Reunion will be Oct. 10 and 11 on campus, featuring an address by YSU graduate Col. Patricia A. Brunner and presentation of the Cincinnatus Award to Bernard Kosar Sr.

Events include a reunion dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the atrium of Williamson Hall on the YSU campus, followed on Oct. 11 with a reunion picnic at 5:30 p.m. at the YSU Veterans Resource Center and YSU’s football game vs. Western Illinois at 7 p.m. in Stambaugh Stadium.

Brunner, who earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at YSU in 1985, gives the keynote address at the dinner Oct. 10. Brunner is assigned to the Air Force Inspection Agency/SG as an Individual Mobilization Agumentee, Nurse Corps Medical Inspector. Her primary assignment is to conduct health services inspections. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., Brunner received a direct commission in the Air Force Nurse Corps as a first lieutenant in 1991. She’s held a variety of positions both active and reserve.

Most recently, Brunner was the Commander of the 914th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Niagara Falls ARS, N.Y. Before that she served as Chief Nurse, 22nd AF, Regional Support Group, Dobbins AFB, GA. Additionally, Brunner was the first Nurse Corps reservists to serve as Chief Nurse, Air Force Theater Hospital, Balad, Iraq, in 2006. She retired in June.

A 1959 YSU and ROTC grad, Kosar served in the Army Reserves for six years and completed his term of service as a captain. Kosar’s civilian career included various management positions with companies such as U.S. Steel Corp., Firestone Tire and Rubber, and Air Power of Ohio. Today he is retired, serving as Canfield mayor and also as a member of numerous boards and committees throughout the Valley, including the Fund Raising Cabinet for the new Veterans Resource Center.
