Fall Festival set at local church

YOUNGSTOWN

Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg is hosting a Fall Festival from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 11. The event will take place in front of the church at 3300 Canfield Road.

The church will be selling pumpkins, cornstalks and gourds, as well as sandwiches, cider and doughnuts. There will be games and crafts for kids.

The event also will feature a craft and trunk sale. Tables and parking spots are available for $10.

Proceeds will benefit Zion’s Food Distribution Ministry, (an authorized food distribution point of The Second Harvest Food Bank). To purchase a craft table or parking spot for the trunk sale call Nancie Bokesch at 330-533-8706. For more information about the event, visit www.zionohio.org.

Austintown K of C receives high award

Knights of Columbus Council 3930 of Austintown has earned the distinction of Star Council, a top award, for the 2013-2014 fraternal year.

The organization’s headquarters, in New Haven, Conn., made the announcement.

The award recognizes excellence in the areas of membership recruitment and retention, promotion of the fraternal insurance program and sponsorship of service-oriented activities. The award was presented to the membership by District Deputy Tony Velasco at a special ceremony on Sept. 28.

Shoppopalooza set at Michael Alberini’s

POLAND

Shoppopalooza will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 at Michael Alberini’s, 1140 Boardman-Poland Road.

It will feature art, jewelry, makeup, crystal, baked goods, crafts and more. Tickets cost $20 per person, and proceeds benefit Altrusa Club of Youngstown.

Shrine will mark 50th anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN

The Shrine of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown, will celebrate its 50th anniversary Oct. 21.

Mass will be at 6 p.m. at the shrine. A buffet dinner will follow at St. Christine Church Banquet Center, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown. The cost is $25 per person and includes food and beverages.

Grotto will serve stuffed cabbage

YOUNGSTOWN

Aut Mori Grotto will be serving a stuffed cabbage dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Grotto Hall, 563 N. Belle Vista Ave.

Dinners include mashed potatoes, homemade applesauce, bread and butter, beverage and dessert.

The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Carryout is available by calling 330-506-9649.

All proceeds will be donated to Grotto charities.

Barktoberfest set to aid animals

CANFIELD

Barktoberfest will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 18 at Andrews Hall at Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road.

There will be a beer taste with a variety of beers and German-style food, and entertainment will be provided by the Weedhawks.

There also will be a 50-50 raffle and a basket auction.
