BREAST CANCER | Local fundraisers
These area school districts are having fundraisers in October, which is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
West Branch: The West Branch junior varsity and varsity girls volleyball teams will be hosting a Volley For the Cure event during their match against league rivals Canton South at 5 p.m. Thursday at the high school, 14277 S. Main St., Beloit. All attendees are asked to wear pink in support of the fight against breast cancer. There will be a 50/50 drawing and raffle of donations that the teams have collected from local businesses. Proceeds will be sent to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Canfield: Canfield High School seniors Maleck Saleh and Sophia Mancini, along with the Canfield High School Soccer Boosters, will host a Pink Out on Oct. 7 during the Canfield vs. Poland boys’ soccer game and Oct. 9 during the Canfield vs. Hickory girls’ soccer game at Canfield High School Stadium, 100 Cardinal Drive. The junior-varsity games begin at 5 p.m. and varsity begins at 7 p.m. During the junior-varsity game, fundraising T-shirts will be sold. The first 150 Canfield fans will receive pink bandannas. Canfield players will be wearing pink jerseys provided by donors. Proceeds will be donated to Yellow Brick Place, an organization dedicated “to nourish the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients and families.”
