Restrictions to end

All restrictions on the U.S. Route 224 bridge over Interstate 680 will be removed by 8 a.m. today, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Restrictions to exit and entrance ramps were removed Thursday morning, with one lane of traffic open on each side of the bridge.

Starting today, there will be two lanes of traffic open on each side.

In addition to the widening of the bridge, a dual right-turn lane was installed where the I-680 southbound ramp leads to Route 224 westbound.

Temporary lane closures on Route 224 between Tiffany Boulevard and I-680 will continue until late October.

Gunfire reported, drug charges filed

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a man on a charge of possession of heroin after answering a call of shots fired on the lower West Side about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

Officers were called to South Lakeview Avenue for a report of gunfire, and when they were speaking to a witness on the street, Richard Molina, 45, of Youngstown, he was standing next to a bag of suspected heroin he told police was his when they asked, reports said.

After he was searched, police also found suspected marijuana in his pockets. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of heroin and possession of marijuana.

Burglary probed

Police were called to Marlane Drive at 3:37 a.m. Friday to investigate a burglary. The homeowner said he heard a noise in the garage, checked and saw two men trying to steal an oxygen tank. They ran away and jumped his fence.

The homeowner told police he leaves the garage door open for a family pet.

Three arrested

CAMPBELL

City police arrested three people on drug-related charges Thursday.

At 11:30 a.m., police arrested Antonio D. Taylor, 47, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, on a traffic stop on charges of driving under suspension, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, and prescription label required, and Stephanie D. Hopkins, 49, also of Detroit Avenue, on a charge of permitting abuse of drugs. In the car, police found two plastic bags containing a total of 20 pills.

Shortly after 1 p.m., police arrested Emanuel Thomas, 58, of West LaClede Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. A glass crack pipe was found in his front pocket during a traffic stop. The driver, 59-year-old Henry Jones of Dorothy Avenue, Youngstown, also was arrested for driving under suspension.

Bridge work done

CLARK, PA.

Motorists will find all traffic lanes open on the Pa. Route 18 bridge over the Shenango River Reservoir in Mercer County.

Rehabilitation of the 426-foot-long bridge that started March 31 was completed on schedule Friday.

The $3,912,496 project is expected to extend the service life of the bridge by at least 50 years.
