Stage Left Dance Academy of Canfield participated in an independent film shot in Mahoning County in August.
The film’s director and crew, from New York City, heard about Stage Left through a local relative and asked them to audition in November of 2013. Jackie Mallis, the film’s director, then decided to use Stage Left for the film and invited the entire studio to participate.
The director met with the dancers and set up rehearsals to prepare them for the coming shoot. In August, the crew arrived for a two week shoot that filmed the dancers at various locations across Mahoning County. The movie is titled “Shooting Stars,” and is a coming of age film about a group of dancers as they travel the dance convention scene. Many of the dancers were also given small parts in the movie as well as dance scenes.
