Name: Maria Katsadas; Mark Jenkins

Instrument: Trombone; Trombone

Q. When did you start playing your instrument? Why did you pick the instrument(s) you are playing?

A. Katsadas and Jenkins both began playing their instruments in the fifth-grade. They original wanted to play the tuba, but were switched to the trombone.

Q. Best memory of being in band/marching band?

A. Katsadas: I enjoy being with my friends. I also was very happy when I scored a 1 in Class B on my solo in my sophomore year.

Jenkins: I really enjoyed going to Disney World in my junior year. We marched in the Main Street Parade at the Magic Kingdom on New Year’s Eve 2013.

Q. Why is music important to you?

A. Katsadas: It has helped me the stresses of school, and it has made me the individual I am today.

Jenkins: Music is important to me because it helps you in everyday life. You also make a lot of really great friends. For me, during the school year going to band made my day much better.

Q. If you were speaking to a group of students about joining the band, what would be your number one reason for joining the band?

A. Katsadas: My number one reason would be that all of my good memories have been because of the friends I have made in band.

Jenkins: Definitely the friends you make. The people you meet in band are some of the greatest people you will ever want to know. If it weren’t for band, I wouldn’t be friends with half of them. It has been a wonderful and fun experience being in the marching band, and I will remember the friends I have made along the way.

Q. What college do you hope to attend/intended major?

A. Katsadas: I plan to attend Youngstown State University or Akron University with a major in Civil Engineering.

Jenkins: I plan to attend Youngstown State University with a major in Engineering.
