No. 24 Oklahoma State 45, Texas Tech 35

STILLWATER, OKLA.

Daxx Garman threw for 370 yards and four touchdowns to help Oklahoma State beat Texas Tech. Garman completed 17 of 31 passes and ran for a score in his second start since stepping in for the injured J.W. Walsh. Marcell Ateman had career highs of six catches and 130 yards, James Washington had three catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns, and Desmond Roland ran for 86 yards and a score for Oklahoma State (3-1, 1-0 Big 12). Davis Webb passed for 374 yards and four touchdowns for Texas Tech (2-2, 0-1) before leaving the game in the fourth quarter because of a left shoulder injury. Brad Marquez had eight catches for 106 yards, Jakeem Grant had a career-high 12 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown, and Reginald Davis caught two touchdown passes. Oklahoma State has won six straight against the Red Raiders and has averaged 55.5 points in the past four wins. The Red Raiders haven’t won in Stillwater since 2001. Mike Smith took over as Texas Tech’s interim defensive coordinator after Matt Wallerstedt resigned from their shared position as co-defensive coordinators. The Red Raiders surrendered 528 yards. It was a typical shootout in the series. The teams combined for 1,034 yards. They also combined for 287 yards in penalties.

Georgia Southern 34, Appalachian State 14

STATESBORO, GA.

Quarterback Kevin Ellison ran for 151 yards, Matt Breida added 135 yards and Georgia Southern beat Appalachian State, spoiling the Mountaineers’ Sun Belt Conference debut. Ellison had 21 carries and scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Eagles (3-2, 2-0). He completed 6 of 10 passes for 73 yards a touchdown, a 17-yarder to BJ Johnson with 2:17 left in the first half. Breida had 12 carries. He opened the scoring with a 56-yard run on the first possession of the game. Taylor Lamb was 23 of 42 for 256 yards for Appalachian State (1-3, 0-1). He had a 19-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. Both teams are in their first year in the Sun Belt and the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision.
