Canfield Local Schools announce Youth Basketball Skills Academy

The Canfield High School boys’ basketball program will be hosting its fifth annual Youth Basketball Skills Academy in preparation for the 2014-15 Basketball Season. All current Canfield fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys are eligible participants. The first night of the academy will be on Nov. 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Canfield Village Middle School. For more information or to register, visit www.mmuck7.weebly.com and click on Youth Basketball. The cost will be $30 per participant and can be paid on the first evening of The Academy.

Boys soccer defeated

The Canfield boys soccer team was defeated by Green 3-0 on Sept. 20 at Canfield High School. Canfield attempted 6 shots on goal and the Canfield goalie, Jeff Joseph made nine saves. The junior varsity team lost to Green with a score of 3-2.

Boys soccer plays Howland

The Canfield boys soccer team (5-3-2) recently took on Howland (6-0-2) at Howland. Goals for Canfield were scored by Frank Phillips from Ben Feuer (2). Canfeild attempted 17 shots on the goal and Canfield goalie Jeff Joseph made nine saves. The junior varsity team Canfield 1-0.

Canfield girls soccer has success

The Canfield girls soccer team recently defeated Boardman at Canfield 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23). Top players for Canfield included Maddy Johns (10 kills), Emma Hartshorn (11 kills), Janie Rafoth (25 assists), Rachel Rafoth (32 digs, 11 points) and Darby Hepola (eight blocks).

Canfield girls tennis record now at 15-1

The Canfield girls tennis team, sparked by the three victories of juniors Taya El-Hayek and Ashley Kaleel, as well as sophomore Lany Slemons, improved their record to 15-1 with wins over Struthers (5-0), Howland (4-1) and Boardman (4-1). Kaleel’s wins were all in singles, while El-Hayek had two singles wins and a doubles victory. Slemons won twice with Paige Modarelli and once with Marina Sturgeon. Other strong performances were put in by Hannah Cianciola, Emily Hofsess and Bri Slemons. Showing improvement was the play of underclassmen Mia Hanlon, Nicole Grimm, Frankie Santon and Grace Barrett.

The Canfield High School boys’ basketball program will be hosting its fifth annual Cardinals’ Basketball Youth Skills Academy in preparation for the 2014-15 basketball season. All current fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys are eligible participants. The first night of the academy will be on Nov. 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Canfield Village Middle School. Boys soccer defeated

The Canfield boys soccer team lost to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy on Sept. 16 with a score of 3-0. Canfield attempted three shots on the goal and Canfield goalie Jeff Joseph made seven saves. The junior varsity team defeated South Range with a score of 2-1.

Canfield defeats Austintown

The Canfield girls volleyball team defeated Austintown Fitch 3-0 with scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-14 on Sept. 15. Top players for Canfield included Morgan Cleevely (14 points 5 aces), Maddy Johns (20 attempts, 15 kills), Janie Rafoth (66 attempts, 31 assists) and Rachel Rafoth (11 receptions, 32 digs)

Golf scramble to be Sept. 28

Team families, Canfield Boys Golf is hosting a Parent/Junior 9-Hole two person scramble. Sept. 28, beginning at 8:30 a.m. It is open to boys and girls in grades 3-12, except CHS Sectional Starters. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
