Texas firefighters rescue pet frog from blaze
WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas
Firefighters who doused the flames at a North Texas house also have made sure the lone resident didn’t croak.
Fort Worth firefighters rescued a pet frog and returned the amphibian to the daughter of the homeowners, who were out of town.
Battalion Chief Richard Harrison said Wednesday that firefighters have saved dogs and cats, but it’s the first time he recalls a frog rescued.
Firefighters were dispatched Tuesday night to a blaze in Westworth Village. Crews searched the house and found no humans while bringing the blaze under control.
Then Jamie Wilson arrived and asked fire crews to look for her family’s frog. A firefighter found the unscathed frog in its glass container.
Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the fire that caused about $60,000 in damage.
Police deliver pie after Pizza Hut driver is hurt
PORTLAND, Ore.
Police officers often deliver citations, and in urgent circumstances they’ve been known to deliver a baby. Now, here comes pizza.
When a Pizza Hut driver hurt his neck and back in a crash earlier this month, two Portland Police Bureau officers heard him call his boss, and they offered to finish the delivery for him.
Steve Huckins says he and his wife were a little worried when Officers Michael Filbert and Royce Curtiss showed up at the door Sept. 1, but when they heard the whole story, they broke out laughing.
It turns out the Huckinses had been about to tuck into the Hawaiian pie that a Pizza Hut manager, making double sure of delivery, brought after they contacted him to see about their order.
In possession of two pizzas, Huckins made a point of getting a picture, in case there was any skepticism about how the second arrived.
“They turn around to leave, and I said, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa — I got to get a picture of this,’” he told KOIN-TV . “No one is going to believe Portland police delivering a pizza.”
He sent the photo on to a police spokesman, Sgt. Pete Simpson. A tweet followed, and the pizza patrol was duly recognized.
The delivery driver reportedly is recovering but not yet back on duty.
Man apologizes for drug-filled football toss
JACKSON, Mich.
A Michigan man is apologizing for trying to throw a football loaded with drugs and cellphones into a state prison yard.
Christen D. Moore last week called the June attempt “a thoughtless and immature decision.” The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports the 22-year-old’s comments came during his sentencing hearing, where he got 17 to 60 months on two counts of furnishing contraband to a prisoner.
