YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown State men’s cross country program is ranked 15th in the latest USTFCCA rankings that were released on Monday. It is the first time the program has been ranked since the rankings started in 2010.
YSU had a strong performance over the weekend at the Iona College Meet of Champions. The Penguins were ninth out of 23 teams and finished ahead of Iona, Kent State and Hofstra.
The Penguins’ lineup should get a boost in the next month with the return of Horizon League champion Eric Rupe.
YSU golfers grab top 4 spots in invitational

The Youngstown State women’s golf team had the top four finishers and cruised to a 30-shot victory at the two-day Clarion Fall Invitational which ended Monday.
YSU won the event with a two-round total of 628. Kutztown finished second with a score of 658 while West Chester placed third. It was the second tournament title of the fall for the Penguins.
Leading the way was Allison Mitzel who took home medalist honors with a score of 153. Emily Dixon and Aislynn Merling finished tied for second at 156. In fourth place was Emily Rohanna with a 160.
Poland to offer shuttle service for Friday game
POLAND
The Poland High athletic department will offer a shuttle service for Friday’s football game against Hubbard starting at 5:15 p.m. The complimentary shuttle will take fans to and from the parking lot at Poland Medical Center, 6615 Clingan Road, to the visitors side of the stadium. The shuttle will end about an hour after the completion of the game.
Springfield volleyball to ‘Volley for Cure’

Springfield High will host a Volley For Cure volleyball match Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers will be playing host to the Blue Devils from Lisbon. Come out and support this worthwhile cause.
Ex-Austintown resident qualifies in WPIAL golf
Neshannock High golfer Michael Rozzi, formerly of Austintown, qualified for the WPIAL Class AA golf championship Wednesday at Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport, Pa.
Rozzi shot a 78 and was one of nine qualifiers to advance from the Section 5 qualifier at Green Meadows on Sept. 16.
Red Wings edge Pens in exhibition opener

Tomas Tatar and Pavel Datsyuk scored power-play goals to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 on Monday night.
Penguins forward Beau Bennett evened the game at 1-1 with 7:04 left in the first. Pittsburgh was without several key players, including forwards Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz due to unspecified injuries.
