Mooney captures D2 golf sectional

RAVENNA

Cardinal Mooney sophomore Nick Braydich shot a 74 and sophomore Ken Keller shot a 77 to help lead the Cardinals to the Division II sectional golf title on Monday at Windmill Lakes.

Mooney finished with 322 strokes, while Lakeview was second with 350 and Girard earned the final district qualifying spot with 355.

Senior Eric Rohrabaugh shot a 77 to lead Lakeview, while junior Mark Sandohar had the low round for Girard, shooting a 77.

Three golfers qualified individually for next week’s district tournament at Windmill Lakes: Crestwood junior Daniel Jones (69), Garfield senior Marcus Miller (74) and Southeast junior Joseph Kainrad (80).

Division III

SALEM

Jared Wilson shot a 76 and Bruce Wiggins finished with a 77 to lead Columbiana to the Division III sectional title at Salem Hills.

The Clippers had 322. South Range was second with 344, thanks to strong rounds by Tom Roux (82) and Brooks Thomas (83).

St. Thomas Aquinas earned the final district qualifying spot with a 346. The Knights’ Jason Barnett took medalist honors with a 75.

Leetonia’s Josh Faulkner (78), Lake Center’s Tim Carr (82) and Western Reserve’s Nolan Snyder (83) were the individual qualifiers for next week’s district tournament at Tannenhauf Golf Club.

GIRLS Division II

NEWBURY

Lakeview’s Kaylee Neumeister shot a 77 to lead Lakeview to the Division II sectional title at Punderson State Park.

Ryan Rosenberger added a 90 for the Bulldogs, who finished with 352, followed by Notre Dame Cathedral Latin (357), Hathaway Brown (363) and Independence 392. Those four will compete at the district tournament at Tam O’Shanter in Canton.

LaBrae’s Haylee Harford shot a 75 to earn overall medalist honors and snag one of four individual qualifying spots for the district meet.
