AUSTINTOWN

The Mahoning County commissioners awarded a $325,526 contract Monday for reconstruction of two deteriorated Austintown roads to Stateline Paving LLC of North Lima.

The roads to be rebuilt are Victoria East and East Webb roads; and the project is being funded entirely by real-estate taxes paid by the new Austintown racino.

The work will start Monday and be completed in one week, weather permitting, said Patrick Ginnetti, county engineer.

The casino at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course opened Wednesday. Horse racing will start there Nov. 24.

Victoria East Road runs from Ohltown Road to Victoria Road and provides alternative access to the Victoria Road industrial park, which contains several major warehouses and an Ohio National Guard armory.

East Webb Road runs west from Four Mile Run Road to a cul-de-sac at the interchange of Interstates 80 and 680 and state Route 11.

During their meeting at the Austintown Senior Center, the commissioners also awarded a three-year $624,266 sanitary-sewer relining and rehabilitation contract for various locations to United Survey Inc. of Cleveland.

The panel also voted to close Four Mile Run Road between North Navarre and Oakwood avenues for about 90 days beginning Monday for a valve-replacement project by the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District, which supplies Meander Reservoir water to Valley communities.

They also closed Gibson Road, one quarter mile west of Lipkey Road, for about 42 days, also beginning Monday for a culvert replacement.

The commissioners’ next meeting will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 1 in Murphy Auditorium at Copeland Oaks retirement community, 800 S. 15th St., Sebring.
