Military weekend at Arms Museum

YOUNGSTOWN

In conjunction with the opening of the new Veteran’s Center at Youngstown State University, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society will honor active military personnel and veterans by hosting a Military Appreciation Weekend at the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave.

Admission to the museum will be free for all active service men and women, and veterans, and their families from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Outdoor activities will include games and crafts for kids, a basket raffle, food and drinks.

The Historical Society will also host special guest speakers at 2 p.m. each afternoon. On Saturday, Rick Williams of the Veterans Resource Center will speak and take visitors on a tour of the new facility.

Nonmilitary families can receive half-price admission this weekend with donations of nonperishable food items or toiletries, which will be sent to the Youngstown Veterans Clinic.

St. Anne to host Ukrainian festival

AUSTINTOWN

St. Anne Ukrainian Church, 4310 Kirk Road, will sponsor a Ukrainian Festival from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday with auctions, raffles and vendors along with authentic Ukrainian food and entertainment.

Among performers will be Youngstown Area Ukrainian Dancers, Happy Hearts Tamburitzans, Kiev Ukrainian Dancers of Carnegie, Pa., and Jack Vasko Orchestra.

Food will include St. Anne pirogi, kiebasi and sauerkraut, borscht, holupki (stuffed cabbage), haluski and kolachi.

There will be Ukrainian beer and other refreshments.

WYSU exceeds fundraiser goal

Youngstown

The fall fund drive of WYSU-FM reached its goal of $132,000 on its final day, which was Friday.

More than 1,100 listeners contributed to the station during the drive, including 111 new members.

The $132,000 goal was much higher than the $115,000 goals set for the last several drives.
