Grand jury continues review of Ohio Walmart shooting

XENIA, Ohio (AP) — A special grand jury has begun a second day of hearing evidence in the racially charged case of a fatal police shooting inside an Ohio Walmart store.

No timetable has been made public on how long it will take to present evidence to the Greene County jurors or how long it might take for them to make a decision on whether charges are warranted in the shooting of 22-year-old John Crawford III.

Grand jurors began hearing evidence Monday at the courthouse in Xenia as dozens of protesters demonstrated outside. Some walked about 11 miles to the courthouse from the Beavercreek Walmart where the shooting occurred.

Police say they shot Crawford on Aug. 5 after he failed to drop an air rifle his family said he’d taken off a store shelf.
