YOUNGSTOWN

Ike Omran wanted to do something as a courtesy to his customers who have supported his gas station for the past 15 years.

That’s why he lowered the cost of a gallon of unleaded, regular gas to $2.99 at his Fast Fuel location on Youngstown-Poland Road.

“It has been awhile since we dropped below $3,” he said. “We wanted to promote our business and do something for our customers.”

The last time gas prices were below $3 in the Youngstown area was in January of this year, Teresa Thomas, director of public affairs for AAA East Central, said.

Omran said the last time he remembers dropping his prices below $3 was at least five years ago. He dropped the gas from $3.27 to $2.99 Sunday evening.

“Now, we are too busy to stop,” he said.

Monday was Fast Fuel’s 15th anniversary. Omran plans to keep the celebratory $2.99 price through today and maybe even longer, depending on the market.

“We are not losing any money,” he said. “We are breaking even. To have the promotion [for my customers] is great. I am very fortunate.”

Thomas said gas prices can vary from area to area. In Youngstown on Monday, most stations were selling for $3.26 a gallon, but Thomas said about 6 percent of the stations statewide reported gas prices under $3.

Toledo had the lowest gas- price average in the state Monday at $3.05.

Statewide, gas prices were about $3.199, and the national average was at $3.333.

Fast Fuel, at 4050 Youngstown-Poland Road, also had its plus priced at $3.19, and premium gas cost $3.39 Monday.
