Calcagnis’ celebrate 68th anniversary

Eugene and Antonette Calcagni of Poland celebrated their 68th anniversary with a family celebration on Sept. 13 and 14 at the Station Square Restaurant and at their home. It was hosted by their children, Jean and Gene Wargo of New Middletown and Joe and Cyndi Calcagni of Canfield, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, Joseph A. Calcagni, died in infancy.

The former Antonette Popio and Mr. Calcagni were married Sept. 14, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Church in Youngstown. They are members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown.

Mrs. Calcagni is a homemaker and is a member of the church festival committee and its Senior Citizens Club.

Mr. Calcagni worked for the James A. Henderson Company for 15 years. He retired as a property unit manager in 1986 from Allstate Insurance Company, where he worked for 30 years. He is a U.S. Navy veteran and served in World War II with the amphibious forces in the South Pacific.

He is an officer of the church Vestibule Club and a member of its festival committee and Senior Citizens Club. He also is a member of Italian-American Veterans Post 3, Morra League and the National LSM Association. He was chosen as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian-American Man of the Year in 2013.
