The traditional blessing of animals celebrates the life of St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast day is Oct. 4. St. Francis is known for his love of all creatures.

Installation set

WARREN

Pastor Robert Herron will be installed as pastor of St. John Ministries Church of God in Christ, 419 Highland Ave., at 5 p.m. Sunday by Bishop David L. Herron Sr., prelate of Ohio Central East Jurisdiction, who will speak.

Pastor Herron attended Youngstown and Kent state universities and Liberty Bible College. He was employed at Delphi Packard Electric for 30 years. He and his wife, the former Linda M. Underwood, have two children and two grandchildren.

Pastor Herron accepted the Lord on March 30, 1968, and served under the leadership of his grandfather, Pastor David Howard Sr., who was a superintendent. He has served as broadcast radio announcer for St. James C.O.G.I.C. church and trustee. Pastor Herron was an assistant pastor in Alliance for 13 years. Pastor Herron accepted his call to the ministry in 1969. He was ordained an elder Aug. 1, 1977, and in 1978 was appointed assistant pastor of Holy Temple Church of God In Christ.

In 1990, Pastor Herron was installed at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. This year, Bishop Herron joined Holy Temple and St. John Ministries together.

Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road, will host Dr. Paul Witkowski, director of pharmacy at Alliance Community Hospital and president of Eastern Ohio Pharmacists Association, at the 10 a.m. service Sunday. His topic will be “Abuse of Prescription Drugs.”

Male chorus event

YOUNGSTOWN

The male chorus of Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave., will celebrate its 64th anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday. Other male choruses will sing in the program.

Friends and family

YOUNGSTOWN

Friends and Family Day will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, 351 W. Rayen Ave., with speaker Edward Warrington.

Praise in the park

POLAND

Praise in the Park will start at 3 p.m. today in Woodworth Park, 255 Warren Ave., with music at 4 with Russ Nottingham, Glory Bound at 5:15, Tim Klug and the SPC Worship Band at 6:15 and Anvah at 7:15. Pastor Jared Woodward will speak at 6.

Children’s activities will be from 4 to 6. Concessions will be available.

Participants should take chairs and blankets.

Appreciation day

YOUNGSTOWN

Alpha & Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave., will celebrate Pastor Appreciation Day at 4 p.m. Sunday in honor of Pastor Raymond Mason’s third anniversary. The congregation of Second Baptist Church of Farrell, Pa., will participate with Pastor Russell Penn delivering the message.

Refreshments will follow in fellowship hall.
