Staff report

AKRON

On Monday Heather Bishop will put her best foot forward at 7 a.m. and run the Akron Marathon to raise money for the Humane Society of Columbiana County.

This will be Bishop’s second time in the marathon. She’ll be among 15,000 participants running 26.2 miles through the heart of Akron.

Last year she raised $800 online through the Furr-ever Miles donations for the HSCC. To donate visit www.crowdrise.com/furr-evermiles.

Bishop, a Salem resident, took up running only a couple of years ago and never ran more than six miles until 2013. She ran the Akron Marathon followed by the Big Foot 50k.

Also in 2013 she created a successful annual 5k race for the society called The Fast & Furriest 5k and Doggie Dash. In this one runners can be joined by their canine companions. This second annual race will take place Nov. 8 in Waterworth Memorial Park, Salem.
