Police confiscated two 9 mm semiautomatic handguns in separate incidents Thursday.

About 2 p.m., police pulled over a pickup truck they spotted on McCartney Road driven by 39-year-old Eric Holsing, no address listed, that had a registration from Kansas, because it had no rear bumper, reports said.

When officers questioned Holsing and told him the reason for the stop, he told officers he had a loaded 9 mm handgun in the truck and a concealed weapon permit from Pennsylvania, but none from Ohio.

Holsing got out of the vehicle and police found the gun under the seat loaded with a 15-round clip and also found a box of 9 mm ammunition with 35 rounds inside, reports said. Holsing was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon because his Pennsylvania permit is not valid in Ohio, and he was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

About 3:40 p.m., two members of the vice squad tried to pull over a car at Fifth and Fairgreen avenues for running a stop sign. The driver refused to stop, and the officers turned on their lights and sirens, reports said.

The officers chased it until they got to Tacoma and Wick avenues, where the driver slammed on the brakes and ran away, reports said. Reports said the driver jumped a fence and ran through several yards while throwing a gun to the ground.

The driver last was seen running through the backyard of 62 Saranac Ave. Police found the gun at Tacoma and Wick avenues where the woods start, reports said. It had an extended clip loaded with 30 rounds.

Inside the car, police found 14 pills and two phones, reports said.

The car was towed as evidence.
