Name: Troy Metzger; Ross Hill

Instrument: Bass Guitar; Trumpet

Q. When did you start playing your instrument? Why did you pick the instrument(s) you are playing?

A. Metzger: I just started playing about a year ago. I love listening to music and wanted to learn how to play.

Hill: I began playing the trumpet in the fifth-grade. A family member used to play the trumpet, so I decided to give it try.

Q. Best memory of being in band/marching band?

A. Metzger: I like meeting new people. You make some great friends in the band.

Hill: One of my favorite trips was going to New Orleans and having the opportunity to play at half time at the BCS Championship Game. I also enjoyed our trip to Walt Disney World and performing in the Main Street Parade on New Year’s Eve Day 2013.

Q. Why is music important to you?

A. Metzger: Music helps you express yourself. My favorite musical number is “Everlong” by Foo Fighters because I like the rhythm of the song.

Hill: Music really helps express the way you feel. I enjoyed playing “Malague ±a” because it was a fun, fast tune. Also, to me, “Perilous Skies” was really a nice song since it was challenging to play. It makes you feel good when you learn to play something challenging, and then when you perform it the whole song comes together and sounds terrific.

Q. If you were speaking to a group of students about joining the band, what would be your number one reason for joining the band?

A. Metzger: All of the memories and experiencing something new that will be a fun memory of my high school years.

Hill: Definitely the overall atmosphere is great. It is a lot of fun, and I have made some great friends.

Q. What college do you hope to attend/intended major?

A. Metzger: I plan to attend Youngstown State University with a computer major.

Hill: I’m undecided on which college; however, I plan to major in Psychology.
