Cops seek help with Akron murder

Staff report

AKRON

Police here are hoping a $10,000 reward can lead to information in getting evidence for a 2012 murder case in which the suspects have a Youngstown connection.

Sgt. Tony Starvaggi, a detective investigating the death of 17-year-old Tyler Anderson, said there never has been a reward in the case, and he hopes the lure of the reward can generate some evidence.

Summit County Crime Stoppers is offering the reward in the death of Anderson, who was shot and dumped in a driveway of the Kenmore section of Akron on May 17, 2012.

The car that was used in the crime later was found burned out in Youngstown, and the suspects also have ties to Youngstown, Starvaggi said.

Starvaggi said the suspects go back and forth between the two cities.

Starvaggi said police believe Anderson was to be robbed and something happened, and he wound up being shot in the head.

Ken Anderson, Tyler’s grandfather, said the case is frustrating because the police have suspects but not enough evidence to prosecute. He said he hopes the reward and publicity will get someone to come forward.
