POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Sept. 9

Assault: A woman at Hubbard Middle School, 250 Hall Ave., alleged a 12-year-old student struck her with a fly swatter as she tried to prevent the boy from leaving a classroom.

Theft: A $350 garage door was removed from a residence in the 30 block of Elmwood Drive.

Sept. 10

Recovered property: A $300 iPhone was found in the 100 block of Fox Street.

Theft/drug paraphernalia: A Parish Avenue woman noticed $220 missing from her home, and reported having found a suspected crack-cocaine pipe in a room.

Sept. 11

Bad check: Alicia M. Arundel, 49, of North Ward Avenue, Girard, faced a felony charge of passing a bad check after an employee with Hubbard Music, 51 N. Main St., alleged Arundel tried to buy a guitar amplifier with a $747 check that had been drawn on a closed account.

Sept. 14

Drugs: A traffic stop near Cyrus and West Liberty streets resulted in minor-misdemeanor citations charging Robert W. Stanko of Wick Avenue, Youngstown, with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Stanko, 41, also was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to comply with a court order related to charges of domestic violence and assault.

Sept. 16

Arrest: Police received a complaint regarding an erratic driver, which led to 26-year-old Joseph E. Domascieno receiving minor-misdemeanor citations charging failure to control a vehicle and to stop after an accident. Domascieno, of Elmwood Drive, Hubbard, was accused of being in a Sept. 9 hit-and-run incident.

LIBERTY

Sept. 9

Arrest: Shawn L. Paulin, 35, of Benton Road, Salem, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail. He was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Theft: A $150 car stereo was removed from a vehicle in the 400 block of Richards Drive.

Fraud: A Logan Arms Drive woman noticed a $104 unauthorized charge on her debit-card statement that apparently originated in New York.

Theft: A charge was pending against a 46-year-old Cleveland man after $282 worth of energy drinks was stolen from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Sept. 10

Drugs/weapon: Authorities responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of Gypsy Lane, where they charged Linda F. Bray, 55, of Bentley Avenue, Youngstown, with criminal trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon, as well as Joseph A. Newman, 63, of Woodbine Avenue, Youngstown, with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Found were a stun gun, a small pocketknife, a suspected marijuana pipe and suspected marijuana in a pill bottle, a report showed.

Theft: A worker for a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant discovered her wallet and pocketbook missing from her purse while at work.

Domestic violence: Ralph W. Page, 65, of East Montrose Street, Liberty, faced charges of domestic violence and disorderly conduct while intoxicated after his wife alleged an intoxicated Page had made several threats against her, causing the accuser to fear for her safety.

Sept. 11

Arrest: Youngstown police apprehended 30-year-old Candis O. Bacher and handed her to township authorities. Bacher, of Stewart Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive was found with a broken passenger-side window. Damage was estimated at $130.

Theft/damage: A Chicago man reportedly drove his impounded vehicle off the lot of Sorice Towing, 1740 Tibbetts-Wick Road, and caused minor damage to a gate.

Theft: A man reported a $300 puppy stolen from his Murray Hill Drive home.

Sept. 12

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue handed 33-year-old Angela Viglio to township authorities. Viglio, of Washington Boulevard, Boardman, was wanted on a probation-violation warrant.

Arrest: Jacob M. Evans, 24, was taken into custody at his Murray Hill Drive home after police learned the Liberty man was wanted on a Braceville warrant.

Auto theft: A 2002 Hyundai Accent was stolen in the 3000 block of Northgate Road.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 400 block of Arbor Circle smashed a pickup truck’s rear window and did $200 in damage.

Sept. 13

Arrest: Mia J. Johnson, 24, of Rosewood Avenue, Youngstown, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail. She was wanted on a warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Arrest: Officers responded to possible threats at a residence in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive before taking 25-year-old Unique P. Hopkins into custody. Hopkins, of Oakland Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a Youngstown Municipal Court bench warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Domestic violence: Senai C. Tate, 25, of Townsend Avenue, Liberty, was charged with the crime after his sister alleged Tate had threatened to severely harm her during a heated argument regarding his refusal to move from her apartment.

Sept. 14

Assault: A township woman alleged her 21-year-old boyfriend struck her face, resulting in swelling and slight hearing loss, during an argument before he fled on foot.

Arrest: Authorities picked up 23-year-old Miriah Provitt of Perry, Ohio, who was wanted on a Liberty warrant charging failure to appear in court on a theft count.

Stolen property: A Thomas Lane man alleged that an 18-year-old Niles woman he had met online tricked him into cashing roughly 10 checks she claimed were written by her boss, who had reported the checks stolen.

Theft: Timothy J. Vansuch, 43, was arrested at his Anderson-Morris Road residence on a theft charge after an employee with a Niles pizza restaurant alleged Vansuch refused to pay for a $15 pizza that had been delivered to his Girard home. Also, Vansuch denied the delivery driver had ever been to his residence, a report said.

Sept. 15

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 37-year-old Kevin M. Sabo of Gordon Street, Campbell, on an outstanding township warrant.

Theft: A Colonial Drive man told authorities a neighbor removed then deleted various files from the accuser’s computer without consent.

Sept. 16

Menacing: A Youngstown girl, 14, in the 4000 block of Jefferson Court alleged the mother of another girl with whom the accuser has ongoing problems threatened to have her daughter fight her.

Theft: A global-positioning-system unit and miscellaneous school-related paperwork were taken from a car in the 100 block of Euclid Boulevard.

GIRARD

Sept. 13

Harassment: A Plymouth Avenue woman said she received several derogatory and profane text and Facebook messages.

Sept. 14

Assault/criminal mischief: An East Prospect Street woman alleged another woman punched her head and grabbed her hair while the accuser was in a vehicle, which had a broken driver’s-side mirror and scratches on its hood from a razor blade.

Felonious assault: A Trumbull Avenue man reported that as he opened his mobile-home door, a male, possibly in his teens and with dark hair, pointed what the accuser thought was a shotgun at him.

Identity fraud: A South Market Street woman found out someone had opened a credit-card account in her name without permission.

Sept. 15

Menacing: A West Howard Street woman said her father made an implied threat because he’s angry that she is pregnant.

Theft: A woman realized $180 worth of prescription medications was missing from her residence in the 200 block of Plymouth Avenue.

Sept. 16

Criminal mischief: A man noticed about 20 dents from a pellet gun in the side of a garage on a piece of rental property he owns in the 10 block of Pittsburgh Avenue.

Theft: An East Prospect Street man alleged his son stole various kitchen utensils and jewelry from his home.

Recovered property: A Mosier Road man found two car keys in his front yard that evidently had been tossed from a green pickup truck.

Sept. 17

Burglary: To a home in the 400 block of Indiana Avenue after someone had broken a window and removed a frame. Nothing appeared to have been stolen.
