Goshen PD finds cache of pot plants

Staff report

GREEN

Goshen police found about $81,000 worth of marijuana plants Wednesday morning after a resident asked a passing officer what kind of leaf she was holding.

Chief Steve McDaniel said the woman approached the officer who was on patrol about 10 a.m. near Beavercreek Road and state Route 165 in Green Township holding a plant and asking if the officer knew what kind of plant she was holding.

She led the officer to a ravine where there were 81 marijuana plants.

McDaniel said his officers have found plants before in fields in rural areas they patrol but Wednesday’s find was the largest he can remember.

McDaniel said the ravine where the plants were located is well hidden and is not easily visible.

“I don’t even know if our air units could’ve seen it,” McDaniel said.

Some of the marijuana plants were 8 feet tall, which means someone was taking care of them, McDaniel said.

The plants do not belong to the woman who found them, McDaniel said.

He said he does not know to whom they belong.
