James debuts shoe; banner next?

LeBron James was at Nike’s corporate headquarters Tuesday for the unveiling of his new shoe, the LeBron 12. It is his first new shoe with Nike since he returned this summer to the Cavs.

The rollout comes less than two weeks before the four-time league MVP reports to training camp. The shoe, his 12th since signing with Nike as a rookie out of high school in 2003, features multicolored hexagonal cushions on the soles.

Sherwin-Williams Co. has asked the city for approval to hang a new banner of James on its headquarters across the street from Quicken Loans Arena, the Plain Dealer reported.

The banner is similar to the iconic one that was in place for years before being taken down after James signed with the Miami Heat in 2010.

Also, Ohio’s Cedar Point amusement park is partnering with the LeBron James Family Foundation instead of renaming a roller coaster for the basketball superstar.

The Sandusky park had vowed to rename a coaster “King James” if the four-time NBA MVP returned home to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers, which he did. Cedar Point says park officials and James decided the partnership announced Tuesday will have greater impact than renaming a ride.
