“The Roosevelts — An Intimate History” (8 p.m., PBS): The political dynasty that produced two substantial presidents and one extraordinary first lady gets the Ken Burns treatment, and you know what that means: lots of old-time photographs, Meryl Streep voice-overs and enough George Will to last a lifetime. It’s all lathered over an illuminating 14-hour, seven-part film that not only explores the political imprint of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor, but gets up close and personal with its subjects.

“Countdown to Miss America” (8 p.m., ABC): Oh, no. Don’t tell me they’re asking the contestants to count. The pageant follows at 9.

“2015 Miss America Competition” (9 p.m., ABC): Break out the swimsuits and sashes. It’s time for the “2015 Miss America Competition,” coming to you from Atlantic City, where the pageant got its start in 1921.

Adam’s Ale to play at Peacehouse

YOUNGSTOWN

Adam’s Ale will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Peacehouse, 204 Broadway, at Elm, North Side. The band is comprised of members of some of the most respected bands in the state, including Ekoostik Hookah, Waterband, the Madison Crawl and the Men of Leisure.

The show is a benefit for Peacehouse, which for 25 years has been the headquarters of Peace Action Youngstown, an affiliate of the largest grass-roots peace and social-justice organization in the country.

Tickets are $20 ($15 for Peace Action Youngstown members).
