Session on foster care, adoption

The Northeast Ohio Adoption Services will present an informal information session from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at NOAS, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 26, for Mahoning Valley area adults — couples or singles — considering adoption or foster care of a school-age child. Attendees can talk to NOAS staff to learn more about Ohio children and teens who need good families. Nearly 4,000 children in Ohio are waiting for homes. Road restrictions

YOUNGSTOWN

The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced upcoming roadwork in Mahoning County. Monday and Tuesday, state Route 7 between U.S. Route 224 and Interstate 76 (Ohio Turnpike) in Boardman and Beaver townships will have various daily lane restrictions for pavement repairs. Beginning on Tuesday, state Route 616 between state Route 289 and State Street in Struthers will be closed while Norfolk and Southern Railroad makes railroad-crossing repairs. The detour will be state Route 289 to Center Street to Poland Avenue to State Street.

West Federal restriction

YOUNGSTOWN

A private celebration for the Youngstown Business Incubator will result in the closure of the eastbound lane of West Federal Street from Vindicator Square to Hazel Street from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Cancer group

YOUNGSTOWN

Joanie’s Sisters in Support, a sorority of cancer survivors, is having its inaugural meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, 1044 Belmont Ave.

The event includes a tour of the center, an overview of the facility by Dr. Rashid Abdu, and an update on the latest breast-cancer screening guidelines and treatments by Dr. Nancy Gantt.

Dr. Abdu, a general surgeon, is the driving force behind development of the center, named in honor of his wife, who died of breast cancer in 1994. Dr. Gantt, also a general surgeon, specializes in treating diseases of the breast and is a breast-cancer survivor.

The meeting is open to all women affected by breast or ovarian cancer and a guest. The reservation deadline is Monday; call 330-480-2763. Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the center on Park Avenue.
