Hermitage man charged with shooting man downtown Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN
A 21-year-old Hermitage, Pa., man is in the Mahoning County jail, charged with carrying a concealed weapon and felonious assault in connection with a shooting.
A group of people from Western Pennsylvania and another from Warren got into an argument at a downtown bar that continued to a parking lot on Phelps Street across the street from city hall about 2:20 a.m. Saturday, said Police Chief Robin Lees.
“When it got to the parking lot, that’s where it went wrong,” Lees said.
One man shot another in the hand, Lees said. The injury wasn’t life-threatening, the chief said.
A police report identifies the shooter as Dominique Greene of Parke Drive, Hermitage. He was charged with the two felonies and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Moments after the shooting — which occurred a short distance from the police station — officers learned a Chevrolet Malibu was involved in the incident. An officer spotted a Malibu traveling east on Boardman Street and stopped it on Front Street.
The four other men — age 18 to 20, from Hermitage and Sharon — in the car with Greene, who was in the back seat, were questioned. They have not been charged with a crime at this time, but police will meet with the city prosecutor to determine if any charges will be filed, Lees said.
The handgun police say was used in the shooting was found under the driver’s seat of the car with the five men. One of the men in the backseat was seen by officers “moving around with his hands down” when ordered by police to keep his hands still, according to a police report.
During questioning, police determined Greene was the shooter, Lees said.
