Puppy stolen

LIBERTY

A man told police two men and a woman stole a 4-week old boxer puppy from him.

Jacob Marshall Evans, 24, told police the three came to see the puppy he had advertised at 9:10 p.m. Thursday at his Murray Hill Drive home.

Evans said he allowed one of the men to take the dog to his girlfriend, who was parked on the street. He got in the vehicle with it, and she drove away.

Fire hydrants tampered with

YOUNGSTOWN

Fire reports said several fire hydrants were tampered with overnight on the South Side.

Crews were called to 600 Playhouse Lane about 1:20 a.m. Friday for a report of an open hydrant, and when they arrived, they discovered someone had taken the cap off the hydrant.

Reports said other open hydrants were then discovered at Willis and Overland avenues, Hillman and Kenmore avenues, Myrtle and Edwards avenues and Glenwood and Chalmers avenues.

The police department was notified as well as the water department, reports said.

Sign to be repaired

YOUNGSTOWN

A company that damaged a sign at the police department will be repairing it, Chief Robin Lees said.

A truck belonging to a shredding company hit the sign over the main entrance to the police department on West Boardman Street on Thursday. Lees said Friday the company is responsible for fixing it and will do so.

Burglary probed

BOARDMAN

Township police are investigating a burglary in which someone reportedly stole $3,000 in cash and two checkbooks from a victim in the 780 block of Indianola Road.

According to a police report filed Thursday, the victim reported that on Wednesday, he noticed a wooden box containing $3,000 in cash and a checkbook was missing from his house.

He reported that another checkbook was missing as well.

Crossing repairs

South Bridge Street (state Route 616) will be closed from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Thursday for repairs to a railroad crossing, according to a press release from city officials.

Investigating thefts

AUSTINTOWN

Township police are investigating two thefts that occurred Thursday.

A caller told police a blue Dodge Caravan with an Illinois license plate had been stolen outside a Deer Creek Court residence at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Another caller reported that $100 had been taken from a Woodhurst Road residence at 9:13 a.m.

Meeting set

YOUNGSTOWN

Garden District Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave.

Guest speaker will be Rick Deak, the chief information-systems officer for Youngstown. He will demonstrate the city’s website and explain how to maneuver through the new public-access inquiry to find information on code enforcement and demolition.

Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th, will give activity updates concerning the West Side. A cookie- and dessert- basket auction will take place after the meeting. The community is welcome to attend.
