On Aug. 22, Robinwood Lane Elementary School celebrated the beginning of the new school year and honored the 76 fourth graders on their last year at the school with an event called Robinwood Rocks.

“It is an opportunity for our fourth graders in their last year at Robinwood Lane School to come to school early, before all the other students, meet their teacher, paint their handprint in our Hall of Fame, and participate in a social game outside,” Principal Don Robinson said.

The day for the students began at 10 a.m. with them meeting in the gym and then going to their homerooms where they dropped off their school supplies. At 10:20, they started at station one in the music hall where they chose a color, printed their hands on the Hall of Fame Wall and signed their names. They next met at the picnic tables at 10:40 for a snack. At 11, they were at the blacktop playground for game time of dodgeball. The day ended at 11:25 a.m. by meeting back at the gym and being picked up by their parents.

Robinson also spoke to the fourth-graders about how they need to be leaders at Robinwood as they are the oldest students at the school.

“This is a special year for them, and they are the students who will set the example for our younger students at Robinwood in 2014-15,” he said. “I talked about them being leaders in all they say and do. I also talked about how other students will look up to them and copy their words and behavior. We need them to be good leaders by example. We are fortunate to have great students at our school who understand the culture we have created over the years and work to carry on that tradition.”
