Ohio man could face death penalty in child death

CINCINNATI (AP) — A 27-year-old man could face the death penalty if convicted, after being indicted on an aggravated murder charge in the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said today that the grand jury also charged Amond Rainey with a murder count in the Aug. 27 death of his girlfriend’s son, Josiya Eves.

Authorities say Rainey was baby-sitting at her residence while she was at work. Police say Rainey took the child to a hospital, reporting he was having trouble breathing after a fall.

The child died two days later. Authorities said the boy had three skull fractures, brain swelling, a lacerated liver and other injuries.

Rainey was in jail today on $1 million bond.
