The Canfield Village Middle School seventh-grade football team raced out to a 34-0 halftime lead en route to a 34-6 victory over the visiting Alliance Aviators on Sept. 3. Nick Crawford led the charge rushing for two touchdowns and returning a fumble 32-yards for another score for the Cardinals.
Canfield took control from the opening kickoff moving 65-yards in three plays to take a 8-0 lead. Crawford got the Cards on the board when he raced 33-yards around left end for six. Quarterback Santino Marucci hit Anthony D’Alesio with strike for the 2-point conversion. Peyton Kostelic recovered a fumble on the Aviators first offensive play to give the Cardinals possession of the ball at the Aviator 28. It took Canfield one play to take advantage of the miscue as Crawford took a Marucci pitch on an option around left end and dashed 28-yards to paydirt. Kostelic blocked an Alliance punt late in the first quarter and picked up the ball in the end zone for the touchdown and a 20-0 Canfield lead after one quarter. Kostelic’s play was setup by sacks by Mario Mavar and Seth Hull driving Alliance to their own one yard line.
Canfield continued their onslaught early in the second quarter when Crawford stripped the ball from the Alliance signal caller and rumbled 32-yards for his third score of the game. Hull burst over the right side for the 2-point conversion to make it 28-0. D’Alesio put the finishing touches on Canfield’s first half explosion when he dashed 20-yards for Canfield’s final score.
Crawford led all rushers with 76-yards, while D’Alesio and Hull chipped in 49 and 41 yards, respectively, while sharing duties at fullback. Marucci had an interception to lead the defense. Coach Donadee cited the play of Richie Hofus and Gavin Tareshawty for their stellar line play.
