Fire investigated
YOUNGSTOWN
Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that started at an East Side home early Thursday.
Crews were called to 855 Compton Lane at about 5:30 a.m. and found the homeowner and her four children outside. The homeowner told firefighters her smoke alarm woke her up, and she got everybody outside.
Reports said the fire was in the basement in the back of the home, and once inside, firefighters found that five fuses had been tripped. However, burn patterns indicated that the blaze started on the cellar steps near some trash bags, and the cause may have been smoking, reports said.
The cause was listed as accidental and is still under investigation, reports said.
