As a follow up to the program it hosted the previous day, the Boardman library put on its tween Beach Day event on Aug. 14.
The event was for children in grades four through six, with the Beach Day event on Aug. 13 for preschool children.
“Summer is a time to have fun and we wanted a fun program,” Boardman library assistant supervisor of juvenile work Karen Saunders said. “We’re having a beach theme where they have a chance to have beach stories and play beach activities like beach volleyball, so we put up a volleyball net outside and we’re playing with a beach ball. Just a chance to have one last fun activity before they start back to school.”
Four children attended the Aug. 14 event. Some of the other activities were Saunders reading from two books, “Seashore” and “The Friend,” cornhole, pool noodle (where the children tossed a scrubby to see how far they can throw it), plus stacked up milk cans in which the children threw balls to knock them over.
“We like to target the older tweens, grades four through six, so we have a special program just for them with children their own age,” Saunders said.
Saunders said the main purpose of the event was to give the children an opportunity to do a fun activity.
“A chance to socialize, have fun with other boys and girls,” she said.
