Ohio child education expert sentenced for porn
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A federal judge in southwest Ohio has sentenced an academic expert on early childhood education to 15 months in prison for possessing child pornography.
James Uphoff was for more than four decades known as a leading expert on early childhood education and later a volunteer courtroom advocate for abused and neglected children.
The 77-year-old Uphoff pleaded guilty in October 2013 to one count of possessing child pornography, and was sentenced in Dayton on Wednesday.
The Dayton Daily News reports that Wright State University library employees found pornographic materials on a printer and copier that were later retrieved by Uphoff. That led authorities to search his home, where they say they found 500 images and two videos containing child pornography.
Uphoff apologized in court “for my past failures.”
