Man dies after falling into Ohio sand storage bin
COLUMBUS (AP) — Authorities say a 76-year-old man had died after falling into a storage bin full of sand and becoming buried in Franklin Township.
Columbus Fire Department officials tell The Columbus Dispatch that Jack L. Martin fell into the sand about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday at a business on Valleyview Drive. It is listed in records as Snyder Brick & Block Co.
Martin, an employee, was dead when rescuers pulled his body from the sand about an hour later. Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Tracy Smith says the sand is used to make bricks at the business.
Smith says Martin fell into a sand hopper about 12 feet deep and 20 feet long. An investigation is continuing.
